Ms. Chong Yit Cheng, Rachel, Baxter Healthcare SA.

Reskilling Programme in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

With an Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Ms. Chong Yit Cheng, Rachel, has over 8-years of Electronics Manufacturing Industry experience. Rachel was retrenched from her previous role due to the economic downturn and wanted to pursue a career within the Biomedical Manufacturing Industry in Singapore which she felt was a more stable Industry and also that her strong background in Quality Assurance would be applicable and transferable to this Industry. Rachel has since been successfully offered a role as a QA Engineer in the Medical Device Industry, Baxter Healthcare SA.

“The medical device company which I interviewed with recognised this training program. They were convinced that my commitment in the course will help me to contribute to the job which I applied for. As a matter of fact, before I attended this programme, I applied for their Supplier Quality Engineer post (which was very relevant to my previous job), I was not even shortlisted for an interview. I think this is one of the main reasons why I was shortlisted this time around for the QA Engineer job interview which resulted in being offered the job so smoothly was due to this programme”.

In Rachel’s new role in Baxter Healthcare, she will be responsible for product quality improvement through failure analysis, risk assessments and quality engineering. Perform/ support process capability, engineering changes, validation and design transfer.

“I would definitely recommend the program to my ex-colleagues – knowing and experiencing the benefit upon attending the program myself”.

Louise Dineen, August 2012, Ireland

Reskilling Programme in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

“I am Chartered Civil Engineer with over fourteen years experience in consulting engineering. After being made redundant over two and a half years ago, I found that there were no employment opportunities in Ireland within the civil engineering sector.

After receiving an email through Engineers Ireland about this course, I applied and commenced the course. I found the course, which is run by GetReskilled excellent and really interesting. It is very well delivered through weekly e-lectures and webinar tutorials which entail self-assessments at the end of each week. The course was assessed with an online exam at the end of the chemistry module and through assignments given at the end of each of the three modules, where adequate time was given for the submission of the assignments. The opportunity of being able to do the course from home and particularly during a timeframe that suited me was practical and very achievable.

During the course there was a one day coaching session on interview and cv preparation run by FPPI. I found the FPPI team very enthusiastic and encouraging and also responsible in steering me in the right direction to return to the workforce. With the help of this course and FPPI I have just completed my first month of a 9 month internship as a trainee process chemical engineer with a large multi-national pharmaceutical company in Co Clare. This placement ,I have no doubt along with the course will give me the invaluable experience required to advance in this new sector.”
